Jeff Mohr, MSW

For the past 44 years, Professor Jeff Mohr has served as an oncology social worker and social worker educator with a deep interest in the interconnection between human behavior and the natural environment. With retirement on the horizon, he is invested in providing nurturing experiences in nature for a variety of diverse populations.

Jeff grew up in rural Nebraska spending many family summer vacations among the woods and lakes in Minnesota. As an adult he enjoyed many camping and backpacking experiences in Nebraska, Colorado, and Wyoming. As an oncology social worker, he was trained in providing relaxation and meditation skills to his patients to assist them in coping with their disease. Much of this included the use of imagery involving nature. As an educator he developed relationships with local Indigenous Peoples and involved students in cultural immersion experiences on local Native American reservations. These experiences have led him to a current plan to develop a part-time practice to provide forest bathing and other natural immersion experiences for a variety of diverse populations. He is particularly interested in developing experiences that incorporate both forest land and prairie, particularly where they intersect.

Jeff is a graduate of The Forest Therapy School’s Guide Certification Program.
